Park in Prószków

General

Unit type:

Its origins date back to the Royal Institute of Pomology put into use in 1868. The park already had trees - part of the current specimen is much older than the Pomology e.g. the oaks.

Trees and shrubs were imported from different climate zones, such as Europe, Middle East, China, India, the Americas, Africa. By 1895, the park included 900 species of trees and shrubs, and the total number of varieties reached few thousand. The most interesting species that we can now admire include: bald cypress, grand fir, Macedonian pine, downy oak, black oak, white fringetree, ginkgo biloba, cucumber tree (one of the most impressive in Poland). There are also many interesting species of herbaceous plants, mostly ornamental, including Siberian squill, alpine epimedium, winter aconite, Armenian grape hyacinth and very rarely seen in parks anemone blue.
