It encompasses some 300 fruit farms where visitors can sample and buy fruit and other local produce.

It was created to promote and protect local cultural resources and natural heritage and for the development of local communities whilst respecting the values of the natural environment. Its main task is encouraging horticulture in the region as an eco-friendly enterprise in the environment and to popularise the traditional trades and everyday tasks in a Malopolska village. The Malopolska Fruit Trail runs through 23 municipalities of the Malopolska Province. The trail has close to 300 sites, many of which are orchards. It is a tourist and commercial area, where the production for profit of fruit and berry crops is concentrated. The trail follows specially marked sections of roads to farms where fruit and other local products can be enjoyed and purchased as well as getting to know the fruit farming methods and the making of products with them. All sites are marked with trail signs (a logo of the outline of three apples). Fruit on the Malopolska Fruit Trail include apples, plums, strawberries, blueberries, pears, cherries, peaches, black and redcurrants, gooseberries, raspberries, chokeberries, nuts and grapes.
