The village of Płonka Kościelna is known for the sanctuary of the Virgin Mary, where there is a renown painting of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, acclaimed since XVII c. The date the church was raised is not precisely known. Dates of 1375, 1446, 1502 can be found in various sources. The year 1502 has been considered the time of founding the parish, as it was bestowed land properties. In the history of the parish there were several wooden churches that served the community. The today’s neogothic temple of St. Archangel Michael dates back to the beginning of the XX c. Only the bell tower from 1800 has remained of the older, wooden church. There are historical protocols confirming almost a thousand miraculous healings in 1683-1785 in the church archive.
