The Międzyrzecze Museum was founded on the 18th of March 1946. Then, in a few rooms of the then cultural centre, there was the first exhibition opened, which consisted of exhibits from the field of art, history and folk culture previously collected in the vicinity of Międzyrzecze. Since 1949 the museum had its headquarters in the historic buildings of the old manor house and the manor annex from the beginning of the eighteenth century. After the adaptive renovation, on 24 July1965 a permanent exhibition was opened under the title: "A thousand years of Miedzyrzecze", which represents the past of the town and the region from the earliest times to the present. This includes the exhibits from the fields of archeology, history, art, decorative arts and folk culture. The museum has a very interesting ethnographic section and archaeological collection of funerary portraits.
