Copernic's Monument



Being in Torun, you can easily hit this target because it is in the centre of the Old Town itself. The commemorative photograph with the astronom's monument on the background is absolutely required.

Unveiled in the 1853 the monument shows the astronom dressed in the professor gown with the astrolabium in the left hand and pointing the sky with the right one. The Latin inscription on the granite plinth tells that "Nicolas Copernic, the Toruń citizen, stopped the Sun, moved the Earth". It is interesting to see carefully the Copernic's face, because it is surely his only one image with the ... moustache!
